About Safi

Safi is a personal finance app that builds your ledger out of the transaction alerts your bank already sends you.

Why it reads messages instead of connecting to your bank

Most budgeting apps work by connecting to your bank account through an aggregator. That approach asks you to hand over a banking login, and it only works at all for banks the aggregator has already integrated. Outside a handful of markets, that list is short, and in Egypt it is close to empty.

Every card swipe, transfer and wallet payment already sends you a message, though. Safi reads those messages. It takes the amount, the merchant and the account from each one, categorizes it, and files it. There is no bank login, no credential to hand over, and nothing for anyone to steal from us that would let them touch your money.

It also means the coverage question is a different question. Safi does not need a partnership with your bank. It needs to understand the alert your bank sends, in Arabic or in English, and that is something we can add without anybody's permission.

Who it is for

People who want to know where their money went without typing it in. If you already get bank alerts and you have never managed to keep a spreadsheet going for more than a month, that is the problem Safi is built around.

It is bilingual by design rather than translated after the fact. The app runs in English and in Egyptian Arabic, handles Egyptian banks and wallets, treats the Egyptian pound as a first class base currency, and tracks holdings on the Egyptian Exchange alongside global markets.

What happens to your data

Your data belongs to you. It is stored against your account, it is never sold, and you can export or delete all of it whenever you want by writing to us.

From each bank message, Safi stores the amount, the merchant and the account, and nothing else. Anything it cannot read confidently waits for you to confirm it rather than being filed wrong. The full detail, including every third party processor we use and how message reading works on each platform, is in the privacy policy.

Where Safi is today

Safi is built for iOS first. The Android build is in closed testing on Google Play and is not publicly downloadable yet, so the Android button on the home page opens a request to join the test rather than a download.

The free tier is permanent rather than a trial. It covers five accounts, two monthly budgets, one savings goal, five investment holdings and three Ask Safi questions a month. Pro removes those caps, raises Ask Safi to 60 questions a month, and turns on automatic bank message sync, deeper analytics and categorization rules.

Who is behind it

Safi is an independent product. It is not a bank, it is not part of one, and it does not hold or move your money. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google rather than by us, which is why we cannot see or charge your card.

Anything you want to ask reaches a person at hello@safimoney.com. There is no ticket portal and no phone line, on purpose.
